For the manufactures. The price is an important factor for the product. Higher price tends to correspond high level of quality, technology or research.
In many cases, the features are well defined and clear.
The technology, instead, it is hard to explain synthetically and dedicated pages have been used for increase the clarity.
Many brands use vaguely the word “cold”. Cold is clearly subjective, but a winter in Lapland is different than a cold winter in California. Using the Typical Operating Temperature (TOT) helps to identify a range of temperature.
Above all, the combination about the environment and the activities can help to understand how the down jacket can be used. For example “alpine mountaineering and ice climbing” or “enjoy the starts during a cold night in the desert of Nevada”.
In conclusion, jackets and more specifically down jackets are not an easy gear to purchase. Be informed and understand the details for a conscious purchase!
